ADMISSIONS
Initial enquiries concerning a placement at Cedar Lodge are generally made by the Schools’ Medical Service or the Educational Psychologists. The principal usually receives some advance information describing the child’s special educational needs, medical condition and emotional or behavioural difficulties. In practice, this information is shared with members of the Senior Management Team initially and with other members of the teaching staff as appropriate before any response is made to the Education Officer (Special) who authorises the admittance of all pupils to Special Schools.
Prospective pupils and their parents are encouraged to visit Cedar Lodge to see what we have to offer and to assist parents in deciding whether this is the best provision for their child, before they make a request for a placement.
The principal may offer a placement at a suitable date, or report to BELB that a placement is not possible within our existing resources.
All pupils with statements are reviewed annually and parents are invited to be present at the review and to express their opinions. Open nights are held for further consultation with the staff.
