Careers education programme – helps to prepare our pupils by equipping them with the knowledge and skills required to participate more fully in society, including the world of work and individual well-being.

KS3 (Yr 8, 9, 10) EMPLOYABILITY

Work in the local and global economy

Describe different types of work

Investigate:-

  • the range of employment including employment trends
  • how technology and environmental considerations are affecting life, work and work practice
  • how work organisations contribute to the community

Career management

  • Assess personal skills and achievements, identify areas of interest and set targets for self improvement
  • Engage in the personal career planning process and practise presentational and self-marketing skills
  • Use a range of ICT resources to investigate a range of jobs

Enterprise and Entrepreneurship

  • Identify and practice the skills and attitudes which makes one enterprising
  • Demonstrate how they can be ‘enterprising’ using initiative and creativity in organising a task or resolving a problem
  • Find out what makes an ‘entrepreneur’


KS4 (Yr 11,12) CAREERS – TRANSITION

Self Development

  • Assess personal qualities, skills and achievements in relation to ‘employability’ - reflect on work experience
  • Analyse personal effectiveness in relation to the key transferable skills which employers say they are looking for
  • Explore the meaning of and reasons for lifelong learning.
  • Make an effective contribution to team work, encourage others and improve the performance of the team

Career Exploration

  • Investigate sources and organisations which will assist with future training and employment
  • Investigate the changing world of work and consider how it might affect career choice
  • Engage in the personal career planning process in order to identify preferred option
  • Research the broad range of opportunities available in education, training and employment in this country and abroad – use findings to help inform career choice

Career Management

  • Practise the skills of self-presentation and demonstrate competence in the job application process
  • Act on advice/guidance given, reflect and review - change plans accordingly
  • Draw up and maintain an action plan, evaluate its success and implement change
  • Use decision making skills to carry out career tasks such as post-16 options – review its effectiveness and make changes as necessary
