THE HISTORY OF CEDAR LODGE
In 1921 Graymount Open Air School was opened as a school dedicated to educating children and young people who had attended Graymount Hospital (Now Hazelwood College) and were recovering from Tuberculosis. As the name of the school suggests, the education primarily took place in the open air (See photograph below).

From 1964 to 2007 the school operated from a purpose built building on Gray’s lane. In 2002 it was announced that Cedar Lodge would require a new facility and this would be designed with the ever changing needs of the pupil in mind. This state of the art facility was completed in 2007 and provides a purpose built facility for 140+ pupils and is situated on a site backing onto Lowood Primary School with panoramic views over Belfast Lough and the Cave Hill.
