DRAMA

As part of the revised curriculum, Drama is now a statutory subject and Drama classes will be timetabled for years 8 to 10 from September 2007. However, Drama has always played an important role in Cedar lodge as it is infused in many subjects. It is a highly valuable teaching tool within a number of subjects across the curriculum. There is a popular Drama club within the school which is optional, and those pupils who attend have the opportunity to perform at end of term shows (such as Harvest, The Carol Service and Prize-giving days).

Drama allows pupils to explore, develop and express ideas and concepts which will help them make sense of reality. They are able to express their thoughts and feelings in terms of speech and movement, shared and experienced in an imagined context.

Drama is also an art form and pupils are able to develop their skills of using voice, movement, gesture and facial expression in acting, mime, dance drama and improvisation. The pupils develop an understanding of various drama strategies, for example:- Thought tracking, conscience alley, freeze frame, hot-seating, role reversal etc. Drama encourages self confidence and self awareness and the development of the individual and the majority of the pupils at Cedar lodge enjoy in immensely.
