ENGLISH
We recognise the importance of English as a medium for thought, learning and expression across the curriculum and also as a subject in its own right. We believe that children need to develop their use of language in order to learn, and to play a full and active role as individuals in society.
KS3 Programme
Units of work are based on a variety of novels suited to the interest and age range of the pupils or on topics such as Teenage Years, Bullying, Pets, etc. These units include various activities where pupils are set tasks in talking & listening, reading and writing.
KS4 Programme
Pupils study different novels, short stories, poetry, plays and media. Pupils may be entered for GCSE English or Entry Level English and will also complete different modules in the AQA Unit Award Scheme.
The Literacy programme gives practice in the skills pupils will need for life after school: form filling, filing, using timetables and directories, letter writing, etc.
