GEOGRAPHY

Geography is taught up to Key Stage 3. Our aim is to develop in our pupils an awareness of their surroundings and the issues of a geographical nature that affect our lives every day. We aim to provide pupils with a range of suitable and fun activities that will help to develop their knowledge and understanding and for them to learn and practise new skills. The resources are carefully selected to allow the teachers to identify the needs of each individual and the pupils are able to work at their own pace through a variety of topics which are both interesting and relevant. Television programmes, DVDs and Geography software packages all play a large part in the delivery of this subject. ICT helps to bring the Geography to life and enable the pupils to link what they learn in class with the world around them.

Some topics included within the Key Stage:

  • Geography of Northern Ireland
  • Mapwork
  • Ecosystems
  • Physical and Human Geography
  • Weather
  • Settlement
  • Population
  • Economic Activity
  • Natural Environments
  • Hazards
  • Tourism
  • EU
  • World Development

The revised National Curriculum is highly focused on the methodology of teaching used within the classroom and on the pupil being at the centre of the learning. Our aim is to bring the subject to life by not only having differentiated work to include all abilities, but the themes covered will link with other subjects being taught at the same time, in order to create a more holistic approach to learning.
