ICT
The ICT Department is committed to developing the ICT skills of all the students to enable them to participate in a rapidly changing world in which work and other activities are increasingly transformed by access to varied and developing technology.
At Key Stage 3, all students take ICT for one hour per week, studying modules in communication, modelling and information handling. We also include the use of e-mail and the Internet, cyber bullying and social networking sites. We will be using the Thinkuknow Education Programme for 11 – 16 year olds created by The Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre.
In Year 10, the pupils complete a portfolio of work which leads to CCEA ICT accreditation at the end of KS3. The pupils are working towards Levels 5 and 6.
At Key Stage 4 students are offered the following options:
OCR Entry Level Certificate in ICT
OCR NEW CLAIT (Pass or Diploma)
Students can also work towards standalone units of the CLAIT examination after they have completed the Entry Level Certificate.
Year 12 students also take part in Young Enterprise. In the past they have set up a company, produced greeting cards for all occasions and sold them throughout the year to pupils, staff members and parents. The students also take part in a Trade Fair in the Abbey Centre. Sales were extremely good and they were able to donate £200 out of their profits to a charity in Africa. The Young Enterprise Students also have a link with a school in Tallin, Estonia. This year the students exchanged information about their product and their school. We received samples of their product (silk scarves) and also information on Tallin.
