SOCIAL COMMUNICATION & INDEPENDENT LIVING

SCIL is a programme designed for children and young people diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder or social and communication difficulties.

Through the provision of a multidisciplinary service we aim to develop social interaction, communication, imagination and life skills within children and young people. Our aim is to generate increased levels of independence and life skills by educating, guiding, mentoring and modelling.

The SCIL programme is implemented from Year one through to Year 12. Some of the key areas include:

  • Myself, People I Deal With and The Community
  • Incorporates issues associated with the Triad of Impairment (Social interaction, social communication and social imagination)
  • Transition to secondary school, transition to external links and transition beyond school
  • Verbal and non-verbal communication
  • Personal image and self-esteem
  • Getting around
  • Making friends

The SCIL provision is delivered by a broad range of professionals including Teachers, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Classroom Assistants.
